What's your favorite Blackwatch piece you currently own? What's your most desired Blackwatch item? ~ScottAlexander
I think my favorite is my PRL Black Watch pocket square. It was one of my first Black Watch buys. It doesn’t go with everything, but it goes with a lot. I probably wear it once a week.
Most Black Watch shirts have button-down collars. I really want a spread collar Black Watch dress shirt. I got one from Modern Tailor a while back, but I messed up my measurements so it didn’t fit well. I ended up giving it to my wife. I’ve been hunting with little success for one ever since.
Question on those +J moleskins (as far as I know, you're right, moleskin is basically just brushed cotton). How do they fit in comparison to Brooks milanos (which I think you wear a lot, right?). Thanks - Matt
Uniqlo J+ Tapered
ankle: 7.5 inseam: 28 outseam: 38 front rise: 11 back rise: 16 knee 8.5 mid thigh: 12 waist: 30.5/31
Brooks Brothers Milano Fit
ankle: 7.75 inseam: 30 outseam: 38 front rise: 9.5 back rise: 16 knee: 9 mid thigh: 12 waist 31
The Uniqlo pants are a 30/34. I had them shortened. I found the 30/30 in the Milanos to be too tight, so I got 31/30s and had them taken in at the waist. I don’t remember what the original waist measurement was.
Both pants have the same outseam and sit at about the same place on my waist. The biggest issue is that the rise on the J+’s is 1.5 inches longer than the rise on the Milanos. So the crotch seam is lower on the J+s so the mid-thigh and knee measurements are all shifted down 1.5 inches which makes the pants look and feel fuller/baggier. I’m thinking of having the waist taken in a bit and wearing them closer to my natural waist or having the legs slimmed a bit…or…do nothing. I’m pretty happy with them for $30.
This weekend, I hit up a thrift I haven't been to before. I found two medium check gingham button downs (in my size) and three pair of black watch trousers (too big). I swear I thought "Make, did Acuteobtuse drop off some clothes here?" I do like the idea of you traveling the country, dropping off your favorite jawns like a Sartorial Johnny Appleseed.
Speaking of which I need to get rid of a bunch of stuff. The Acute Style Shop is opening up after 12/25. I can’t think of a better place to spend your Christmas, Hanukkah and Festivus dough. Spread the word.
