Weekend Sewing Project: Tapering Pants

The right leg has been tapered. The left leg is not. Before and after in one shot.

Both legs are tapered.
I bought 5 pairs of J. Crew Regular Fit Essential Pants about two or three years ago. I wasn’t really happy with the fit, but they were the best options I knew of at the time. The waist was a tad to big. There was too much room in the seat. And the leg opening was too wide. Believe it or not, they were actually a step up from what I was wearing at the time. Don’t ask, but to say the least, it wasn’t pretty.
Recently, I’ve been buying new pants to replace the J. Crews. I haven’t really worn them in about 7 or 8 months and was thinking of getting rid of them. I found them in the back of my closet this weekend and thought I’d try my hand at tapering them. What could go wrong?
I turned a pair of pants that I had tapered by my tailor inside out and examined what she did. It looked simple enough so I gave it a go and it wasn’t that hard. I think it looks pretty good too. The waist and seat are still a little too large. I have no idea how to really fix that. Maybe another weekend when I’m feeling more adventurous.
